Where have you worked and over what time period?

I started a casual photographic job at the Shepparton News in May 1979, became a cadet photographer in 1982 and was then made chief photographer/pictorial manager in 1985. I still hold that position today.

How did you get into press photography - what was your big break?

My big break was the first day when I walked into the Shepparton News for work experience in 1979. The casual darkroom assistant resigned that day and the News offered me the job - and I have never left.

What is your favourite photograph of all those you have taken and why?

What I consider to be my favourite photograph changes whenever I look through my archive. One that always stands out is a picture of a boy trying to make a phone call during the 1993 Benalla floods.

What is the biggest change you've seen in press photography over your career?

The biggest change in press photography over my career would have to be, first, the change to colour and then the change to full digital photography.

What was the first camera you used and what camera do you use now?

The first camera I ever used on the job was a Nikon FM2 with MD 12 motor drive. I still have every camera used in my collection except for the Canon we changed to once.
